In 1992, Bülent Ecevit University was established as one of the historical and prestigious public universities, initially named the Department of Mining Engineering to meet the state's needs in the field of mineral exploration in the mineral-rich city of Zonguldak. Subsequently, more faculties were added, and it was directly linked to Hacettepe University in Ankara, being named Karabük University. On April 11, 2012, the name was changed to Bülent Ecevit University.
Bülent Ecevit University comprises 13 faculties, 3 graduate institutes, 7 vocational schools, 30 research centers, a large government laboratory, a scientific library, in addition to a music institute.
