On Dokuz Mais University is a well-established public university established in 1975 to breathe new life into and contribute to the economic, cultural and social life of the Black Sea region and is one of the strongest research and education institutions in Turkey, which embraces universal values and works with intellectual diligence to bring innovations for the benefit of individuals and society. The university was named “May 19” and that is the same date that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk went to Samsun on the Bandirma Ferry to fight the war of independence. The university includes 19 colleges, one high school, 12 vocational schools, two institutes, one conservatory, and 24 applied research centers.
