Recep Tayyip Erdogan University was established based on Parliamentary Law No. 26111 on March 17, 2006 in the name of Rize University in relation to the city in which it was founded, which is located in northeastern Turkey, but on April 11, 2012 the name of the university was changed from Rize to Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a tribute Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who represents a title of challenge, leadership and excellence in Turkey, and whose birthplace is Rize.
Despite the recent birth of Recep Tayyip Erdogan University, it is one of the most superior universities in Turkey. The university contains a highly experienced academic staff, 12 colleges, 41 departments, 7 theoretical and applied research centers, and a huge educational library containing millions of valuable books and volumes.
